Levy the property tax
“…the county legislative body shall levy a tax on the taxable real and personal property within the county.” (17-36-31)
Determine the market value of property
“The county assessor…shall assess the property…” (59-2-303)
“…each county assessor shall annually update property values…based on…current market data.” (59-2-303.1)
“The county assessor shall list all property in each taxing entity in the county by identifier and fair market value.” (59-2-305)
“…the assessor shall complete and deliver the assessment roll to the county auditor.” (59-2-311)
Determine the tax rate(s)
“The county auditor shall…prepare from the assessment book…a statement showing…the total value of all property…the value of real estate, …the value of improvements, …the value of personal property, …and…the number of acres of land…” (59-2-322)
“The county auditor shall then compute…the aggregate sum in dollars and cents to be paid as taxes on the property enumerated in the book.” (59-2-324) “…the county auditor must deliver the corrected assessment roll to the county treasurer.” (59-2-326)
